The checklist
- Age and record: You must be at least 18, with no serious moving violations or DUIs on your record. Up to two additional drivers can be added, and each must meet the same requirements.
- Documents: A valid driver’s license, a major credit card in the renter’s name, and proof of an active full-coverage auto policy (collision, comprehensive and liability) in the primary renter’s name that extends to rental cars. American Express Premium car rental coverage can act as primary insurance.
- Payment: Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. Cashier’s and personal checks are accepted when they arrive 7 to 10 days before the rental.
- Deposit: A refundable security deposit of $1,000 to $1,500, depending on the car, holds the vehicle. It is returned after the rental when no damage is found. If there is damage, MVP inspects the car with you on site and deducts the repair from the deposit.
Where you can take the car
Anywhere in Florida within 100 miles of the showroom, unless MVP approves a longer trip in advance. Racetracks, unpaved roads, towing and driving lessons are not allowed.
Pick-up, return and minimums
Cars are scheduled for a 10 a.m. pick-up and a 10 a.m. return. An early pick-up or a grace period may be possible depending on demand, billed by the hour. Weekend rentals (Friday to Sunday) have a two-day minimum. A one-day weekend rental may be possible, depending on availability.
How to make it quick
Send a reservation request with your dates first. Once the concierge confirms the car, have your license, your insurance card or declarations page and your credit card ready, and the paperwork takes a few minutes at delivery.
